Thanks to you all !
WE HAVE BEEN OVERWHELMED BY THE REACTION FROM PEOPLE VIEWING OUR TRAILER AND YOUR HUNDREDS OF COMMENTS, and we hope to be able to film more projects in the months & years to come.
You can download and access more informations about the film including video tutorials on my blog at www.sebmontaz.com
We hope to be able to film more projects in the months & years to come.
I have been filming the Skyliners on an incredible exploration into the world of free flight.
Tancrède, Julien, Seb and Antoine are pioneers in ‘highlining’ - a vertiginous combination of climbing, slackline and tightrope walking.
We travelled from our home in Chamonix to our training ground in the Verdon gorge, testing the limits for our ultimate goal...
We rigged highlines on the skyscrapers of Paris, and finally came to the spectacular cliffs and fjords of Norway.
Months of training led the Skyliners team to attempt their dream of complete freedom... the freedom of flight !

PLEASE WATCH IN HD FULL SCREEN w/SOUND. It is a much better viewing experience. Hopefully you have a 1080P monitor and good connection. If not, bug a friend or colleague that does. It is worth it.
Landscapes: Volume 2 is the second of a three part series (probably). Every frame of this video is a raw still from a Canon 5D2 DSLR and processed with Adobe software. In Volume 2 I again show off my beautiful home state of Arizona and I also made several trips to Utah. This video has some iconic landmarks that we have seen before. I felt that showing them again with motion controlled HDR and/or night timelapse would be a new way to see old landmarks.
Sales Pitch: I would now have to say that my timelapse skill set is very complete. The amount of knowledge I have gained through research, testing, and shooting experience is astounding. From moon phases to high dynamic range to motion control rigs to noise reduction, you would have a tough time finding someone with more overall knowledge of timelapse. If you need help with your next timelapse project you can reach me at 888-444-2739 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Most of the motion control for this video was done with the Stage Zero Dolly by Dynamic Perception. Once I got comfortable using the DP dolly I fell in love. I can set up shots now in much shorter times. More importantly for me, it is much smaller and much more portable than my homemade motion control. Without it, shots like the Delicate Arch shot in Utah would be nearly impossible due to the length of the hike. Buy the Stage Zero Dolly if you are looking for quality, inexpensive, easy-to-use motion control. http://dynamicperception.com/
In addition to the Stage Zero, I also used a three axis motion controlled CamTram. The CamTram is the most versatile dolly I have ever used. Its applications are only limited by your creativity. The CamTram has virtually no weight limit. I was able to achieve shots that dolly-in with the camera just over the ground because of the CamTram's ability to hold heavy counter weights.

Saving the best for last . . . thanks to my wonderful wife Laura. Not only does she put up with and support this crazy passion of mine, she helped out on many of these shots. I think I'll keep her :-)

A MINI ADDICTION
An Automotive film about addictions in life.
The concept of this experimental video is about a passion for the automotive industry and how it isn't, at all, a bad addiction. Quite the contrary. Its an addiction you can be proud of. Some would say, anything that is an addiction is bad. I disagree. The passion for cars is more than a hobby. It becomes a lifestyle. Something to treasure.
This short experimental motion piece is the result of a 24h production timeframe.
In 2 days I came up with a storyline and were out and shooting all the scenes. The results are quite satisfying. The combination of my videography background and Pedro Freitas amazing photographic skills, we were able to create this video which was shot entirely in Madeira Island's beautiful mountains and we managed to get a mood and atmosphere across by capturing some stunning foggy scenery footage.
As one would expect, 24h isn't a lot of time to produce a video, therefore a lot of amendments were made in post-production using After Effects.
The editing and post-production stages took quite a while due to my MA Motion Graphics course (which I've have just finished). I was exceedingly busy and didn't have time to work on this project. A couple of days ago I decided to finish it off.
Last but not least I would like to thank everyone involved and that helped us during the process. Sandra Guerreiro and Fátima Neto for their presence in the video. Guilherme Mimoso and Gil Freitas for their production help and Pedro Freitas the 2º Director of Photography of this video. Check out his work at www.pedrofreitasphoto.com
Be sure to check www.thomasvalente.com to see some behind the scenes footage and some making-of's of the post-production work.

Wille Yli-Luoma: Picture This
- Details

This is a video section that I directed and shot for Wille Yli-Luoma. Wille is a good friend and one of my favorite snowboarders. He is full of life and adventure. It was always exciting to go on a trip and explore with him.
This particular year for my film Picture This we had a few new things that we wanted to accomplish. One of which was a night powder section. And Wille was up for the challenge.
On a trip to Cooke City, MT we stopped in bozeman and loaded up with supplies. There are usually plenty of down days in Cooke City due to the weather. But this time we wanted to make use of them. The first five days were socked in with white out conditions that make it difficult to see anything in the day. But as luck would have it it seemed to clear up every night. So we slept in the day and snowboarded at night.
Most of these locations are 10+ miles out in the back-country. The only way to access them is with snowmobiles. Leaving our cabin at 5pm and getting back around 4am. Dragging all the lights, generators, dollies and cameras without breaking them every night was a challenge to say the least. Add to that temperatures that were averaging -25 Celsius and you can imagine just how difficult it was. To this day I think it still might have been the hardest shoot I have done. All that and it was just for Wille's intro.
But all that aside... It was a blast!
As for the rest of the section it showcases Wille doing what he does best... Snowboarding!
Hope you enjoy!

Metropolis - A New York City Timelapse

*Please watch this at the highest resolution you can with the sound up. You'll be glad you did!*
New York City has been my home for seven years and as a filmmaker and photographer I can’t help but be in awe of the vibrancy and beauty of this place . I wanted to create a work that captures and conveys my love for it. This video is something that I have been working to create for two and a half years. As a freelancer, I shot this film in the little windows of time between work, looking for my next job, and getting engaged and married. I’ve shown some of these shots to friends along the way, but this single, unified piece has always been the focus of my filming and I’m very happy to present it now.
I want to thank two people who made this possible; first, my wife Pooja for putting up with my need to shoot sunrises and late-night shots when she’d really rather I didn’t and being my best critic, biggest fan, and muse. And secondly, my awesome friend and collaborator Brandon Bailey who was there from the very first shoot with advice, support and enthusiasm. Thanks for everything!
Filmed between May 2009 and September 2011.

The serene upland farm of Llyndy Isaf, on the shores of Llyn Dinas, is unique in Snowdonia, untouched by intensive farming and home to threatened wildlife of international importance. Sitting within the Nant Gwynant pass, offering 600 acres of extraordinary and peaceful haven for people to get close to nature – and enjoy quiet pursuits such as hiking, kayaking and sailing.
